Mot di Fiernu


The " Mot di Fiernu " ( Local name ) meaning: Mot from hell.
DESCRIPTIONS:
This is a Sphinx Mot. ( Large Mots ).
Lines and patches on the wings are radical when compared
with the lines on the inner-wings.
The colour of it's antenae is white.
It's colours are: brown, black, gray, white and red
Body lenght is approximately 7,50 cm.
All the pictures belongs to a species reared in our lab.


CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a large Mot and you can notice it's weight in your hands.
Sphinx Mots are normally gentle and not shy.
She is an excellent flyer.
Sphinx Mots are real nocturnal.
You might cross-reference this Mot with the " Mot Para "
and also the " Mot Hale-palu ".

Some difference between a Mot and a Butterfly:
* Antenae of a Mot does'nt have a ball at the end.
* Mots are mostly night insects.
* Mots lack vibrant colours like Butterflies.
* Mots sleep with open wings while Butterflies closed theirs.
* The pupa of a Butterfly hangs unprotected while Mots protects theirs
in the soil, rolled-up in leaves or covered with mud.
* Mots react on light, vibration and scent while Butterflies on
colour, temperature and scent.
