Aranja Welik

DESCRIPTION:

She has very nice color: black/green abdomen and thorax.
Green and pink legs, and very remarkable white stripes on
the abdomen and thorax.
The " Aranja Welik " has some large pedipalps.
It's legs are covered with spines.
Lenght: 2.2 cm from the spigots to the pedipalps.
Rear feet to front feet: 4,5 cm long.

HABITAT:

This spider lives near dam and other fresh water containing sources.
Grass and shrubs that grow along or in the water is where this spider sleeps.
Occasionlly beneath a rock alongside the water.

CHARACTERISTICS:

The " Aranja Welik " is a large Water Spider.
This spider is not of the lazy kind, they can really sprint on water.
It's not for nothing it has the common name " Welik " ( Lightning ).
She can run to catch a prey and run from danger.
But she can also surprise a prey by jumping on it by hiding in grasses or
other plants that grows in the water.
She eats mainly other water insects. The " Aranja Welik " does everything
on the water, even sex ( see picture ).N
I can't imagine that insects has small brains, because see forinstance this
particular couple, they know to grab some kind of solid object with their feet
while on the water to hold on to.
